In 1949, Bill Garrett not only integrated Indiana University’s basketball court, but also the whole Big Ten athletic conference.

Garrett, who was the first African-American to play basketball in the NCAA, later played for long esteemed NBA teams, the Boston Celtics and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Garrett was inducted in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1974.
