Did you know that in 1928, Marjorie S. Joyner invented a permanent perming and waving machine for black and white women’s hair for black entrepreneur Madame C.J. Walker’s company? She was also the director of over 200 of Walker’s beauty schools.
Joyner is also credited for founding the United Beauty School Owners and Teachers Association with famed educator Mary Bethune McLeod in 1945.
